Regulator Skills
Breathing from a regulator, clearing it when it floods, and recovering it if it leaves your mouth. First practised in shallow water, then in open water.
Step-by-step demonstrations
1. Regulator breathing in / out
Breathe in slowly and deeply, then breathe out slowly and steadily. Never hold your breath and never rush the rhythm.
2A. Clearing — blast clearing
Take the regulator out of your mouth and hold it away from your face, mouthpiece angled down. Exhale a steady blast of air into it to push the water out, then replace it and breathe.
